BIEDERMEIER ARMOIRES AND VITRINES V262
BIEDERMEIER ARMOIRES AND VITRINES V262

Biedermeier vitrine, exemplary for the region of Prague. This type of vitrine with large glass panels, mirrored backwall and a maximum of transparency is a real "showcase" which early Biedermeier scholars called "The Museum of the Borgeoisie". Indeed, it features every decorated object (of the not wealthy middle-class) as a museum piece. The rounded shoulders are characteristically for Prague. Cherry wood and maple veneered on pine, inlaid with palmettes and hairlines in maple. Original glass panels. mirrors, shelves, lock and key. Shellac-based repolished in preserving its original patina.
Prague, circa 1825/30.
